Storage solutions are a requirement in every single home. In all our projects, the brief always includes the addition of more storage. New wardrobes, hidden cabinets, drawers… the creation of clever storage to maximise the capacity of the property is something that everybody wants.
After many years of helping our clients to find the best solutions for their homes, we have a good understanding of what works better. Most of the time custom joinery is the best solution because it totally adapts to any space. If your room is small, you should seriously consider it.
With all this in mind, we decided to write about our top 10 best storage solutions with custom joinery. Continue reading and get inspired!
The entrance is the first area in your home where you need storage. Coats, shoes, keys… all these items need a place in this room. With bespoke storage, you can make your everyday life easier and keep all that stuff in order.
A closet at the entrance with a shoe rack system is ideal but not all homes have space for it. Maybe some hooks and a small cabinet hanging on the wall it’s enough to keep everything organised. An open cabinet like in the picture above would be a nice storage solution too.
Try to make the most of your entrance with a good design and clever storage solutions. Think about the possibility of a bench with storage inside, and consider adding cabinets on the wall too.

This part of a house is usually underestimated. Under stairs storage can seem uncomfortable but it really is very convenient if designed properly. With custom joinery, you can add a big amount of storage in a corner that otherwise, you won’t be using.
A huge cabinet with one door won’t do the trick. We recommend creative solutions, like separated cupboards or drawers that are comfortable to store and use.
If your stair is part of a narrow corridor, then a lighter alternative may be better. A bench with close storage underneath or a bookshelf can be the perfect solution for you.

You can really get creative here. It all depends on the shape of your room and the space that it has, but you can always add some storage solutions around your TV wall.
One of our favourite options is to create a full wall storage system. It can cover the TV with sliding doors and have storage all around. It also can have shelves to showcase your favourite books and items. The possibilities are endless.
We also love simple solutions, like low and wall cabinets surrounding the tv. Consider having wall cabinets touching the ceiling. It creates visual interest and it makes the room feel bigger.

Now more than ever we need a comfortable space to work from home. A built-in desk is a perfect solution to make the most of any room. You can cover it with doors or leave it clean and visible.
It works in the kitchen, bedroom, entrance, under stairs… any corner can be adapted to integrate your bespoke desk. However, we recommend that you consider how you are going to use it. Maybe you need a quiet space to work and therefore the bedroom can be the ideal room. It all depends on your needs.
The simple shelves design for the desk looks amazing, but have into account the storage. Think about including a cupboard or drawer close to it. The actual desk can be a drawer itself.

A beautiful bench is a clever solution to increase your storage capacity. Maybe you can connect your kitchen cabinets with a seating bench for your dining table. If your room doesn’t allow this connection think about the possibility of an independent bench instead.
A window bench always looks good, and it is even better if it is helping you organise your home. Cabinets, drawers, or open shelves would look great. You can design any kind of storage underneath your bench.
Another solution you can contemplate is to extend the living room cabinets to add the bench in that part of your home. Think about all the possibilities!

The kitchen is one of the rooms that have more storage needs and it deserves a post by itself. However, we wanted to include it on the list because sometimes you can find some clever extra storage in this room too.
A cabinet with pocket doors may be ideal if you want to hide your appliances and the everyday clutter. Also, consider going as high as the ceiling with your cabinets to maximise the storage capacity.
If you need the extra space use wall cabinets. Be cautious if your kitchen is small. Instead of cabinets, you can make it look lighter with some shelves to showcase your favourite utensils. It will be practical and it can function as a decorative element too.

Consider pull out cabinets when thinking about your storage solutions. They are very useful in narrow but deep spaces because you can easily access to the deepest part. Sometimes you have a space that is deeper than wider. In that case, pull out cabinets are the best solution.
Pull out cabinets are a great solution to keep everything well organised in the kitchen for pantry and utensils, and the entrance for shoes and coats. You can find some good solutions in stores (kitchen mostly) but consider custom made if your space has special needs.

It may seem obvious but we want to encourage you to think out of the box to find solutions that work in a practical and aesthetic way. Make the most of your home building a floor to ceiling bookcase.
The lowest part of the bookcase can be composed of cabinets so you can showcase books and decorative items on the open shelves and hide the rest inside the doors. Also, when designing a bookcase, have in mind what you want to put in there. Books, accessories, vases, prints… Think about the dimensions and how everything would work in your room.
Using different panels on the back of the bookshelf creates a really beautiful and interesting finish. Again, there are so many possibilities! Stay creative and make the most of your walls.

The space under the bed is a good place to create storage solutions. In small properties, it really becomes a great addition because it increases the storage capacity and maximises the potential of the property.
Cabinets or drawers, they will allow you to keep things tidy. The design can vary, but in our projects, we like to keep things as simple and functional as possible. Clean lines, strong materials and practical solutions are the keys to under-bed storage.
We always recommend professional joiners in all our projects, but in this case, it is extremely important to work with an experienced carpenter. The under bed storage is a complex construction and it needs to be well done in order to function properly.
Bathrooms are busy rooms and storage solutions are always needed. The bathroom is normally a small room with lots of things going on. Clever bespoke designs can really make the most of this room.
Think about how you can maximise the available space. You can consider some shelves or maybe some mirror cabinets from chest level to ceiling, completely integrated into your room.
Maximise the space under the basin with a bespoke cabinet or drawers. It can cover the total length of the wall and you end up using every square meter of your bathroom.
